Australian Ballet Production of Swan Lake Five a Side Football in London Greenwich Meridian Line - Green Laser Beam | Australian Ballet Production of Swan LakeThe London Coliseum is well known for stanging more leftfield productions, certainly those that are not quite mainstream. Although not the most highly regarded Ballet Company, the Australian Ballet proves here that is can run with the best of them. This was only a very short season - just a week, the first time in London for over 12 years. The production was very good, let's hope they come back sooner next time! The Australian Ballet have been performing this most famous Tchaikovsky ballet in this way since 2002 and have over 100 Australian performances to their credit. Choreographed by Australia's leading choreographer Graeme Murphy the story is set in a Royal Palace. The London sets were minimal but more than adequate as a backdrop to the accomplished dancing. The style was modern classical - which is to say modern in style but heavily dependant on classical routines. The audience was most notable for a very large Ozzie contingent, great to see them supporting their own with pride! Let's face it they are not normally considered the most cultured of people - maybe they've had to had to develop other interests to divert the talk from their cricket team!
