Blackcurrants - the new super food Goat's Milk, is it worth trying | Hot Chocolate With RumInspired by my last skiing holiday, where my poor feet kept getting cold. Which meant I was taking regular bar stops while elegantly carving my way down the runs. At said stops I'd loosen my boots - a blessed moment of relief, known well to all skiers - sit back and have a lovely creamy hot chocolate laced with a generous shot of hard liquor, just to warm the insides you'll understand. I've found it to be quite delightful back in old Blighty too ...
Make the hot chocolate the proper way - in other words don't be lazy and just spoon it into a mug and pour in boiling water - splash a little milk in a pan, spoon in the hot chocolate and stir into a paste, it's a little tiresome doing this but worth it. When you have a rich paste, turn the heat up and add half milk and half water to make the measure up to the required amount, keep the heat very low and take your time, the pot will be fully heated soon enough. At the point of boiling remove from heat and pour into large mugs. Dollop a large wad of whipped cream on the top and serve with a shot glass filled with rum, a large shot is required, this shouldn't be a subtle drink, it's a full on belly warmer. In my view pouring the rum into the drink is an important part of the ritual but there is an argument for adding the rum before the cream. Personally i don't mind pouring it over the cream and stirring it all up, splashing it around a bit is all part of the fun. |
