Smiling in the Street

Does it take fewer muscles to smile than to frown? It's one of those urban myths that has been bugging me ... and the answer is NO, in fact it takes more! Here is a thorough explanation of how many muscles it takes to smile (43 - all listed by name) whereas frowning only uses 17. Apparantly women smile more than men, but that study has to do with American High School yearbooks, so i'm not sure how it would relate to real life!

Notwithstanding that, it is much more fun to smile. I love smiling at people, especially while walking down the street. It is such fun to see how they react. Naturally smiling at girls is more exciting than boys (other way round if you are a chick of course!)

I'm not talking a receptionist pseudo smile or one of those half baked grimmace type things ... only a full on ultrabryte type smile will do. Wide eyed, flashing teeth and a momentary but focused attention. :)

It is magical, people cannot help but respond. Spot the ones who grit their teeth, determined not to smile back, they just scowl their way through life anyway i imagine. Some glance over their shoulder thinking they are mistaken and that you are smiling at somebody else, then shyly half smile back when they see no-one else. I like the bold and cheeky ones, who lock eyes and give a broad grin back. But my favourites just can't help but smile back as a knee jerk response, these are the happiest people, i think they must be open and unguarded.
